From midnight on Tuesday 8 March 2011 our website and Facebook will publish a selection of contemporary poems. The challenge is to adapt one poem into a short film (of 1-2 minutes duration) and upload it on the Huddersfield Literature Festival Facebook page by midnight on Saturday 12 March 2011. Your film will then be judged and the shortlist premièred on the Sunday (20 March 2011) as part of the Huddersfield Literature Festival programme.
The shortlisted films will also be premièred at the Holmfirth Film Festival May 2011. In addition, there will be prizes for first, second and third.
The ‘Young Reviewers Competition’ aims to encourage children to broaden their reading and the winning entries will be chosen by the best-selling children’s author and former children’s laureate, Ann Fine. The winners will be showcased within the festival as well as receiving prizes.
The competition would involve each child submitting a review of a book of their choice. The competition has been split into the following categories; each category carries a different word limit which must be adhered to.
Age 4-6 50 words maximum
Age 7-9 100 words maximum
Age 10-11 150 words maximum
The winners of the 2010 Grist writing competiton will be announced at the launch night on 16 March.
The Grist is an annual competition for short story and poetry writing, which attracts upcoming talent from all over the globe, this year has seen entries from as far as New Zealand!
