HLF is a White Rose Award finalist!

The Huddersfield Literature Festival has been shortlisted for a prestigious White Rose Award in the Arts & Culture category.

The organisers of the award, Welcome to Yorkshire, informed the festival by letter, saying: “The competition this year was very strong so you can be very pleased that your entry has been shortlisted.”

The other finalists in the Arts & Culture category are: Kunsthuis Gallery, Crayke; Swaledale Festival; The Craft Centre and Design Gallery, Leeds; York Theatre Royal; Yorkshire Young Sinfonia.

Festival Director Michelle Hodgson said: “We are thrilled to have been chosen as a finalist among such distinguished company. It’s a testament to the hard work of our many volunteers, the audiences who support and enjoy our events, and of course the performers.”

The Festival, which takes place annually in March, this year celebrated its 10th anniversary on a high, with a diverse programme that included Irvine Welsh, Ben Miller, Alan Johnson MP, Joanne Harris, Lemn Sissay and Levison Wood, as well as children’s events, library events, Bollywood dance and storytelling, creative writing workshops, an LGBT event, a Poetry Slam, Open Mic and Literary Afternoon Tea.

Plans are already under way for the 2017 Festival, which will take place from 4-19 March 2017 with the theme of “Courage”.
